Seven child labourers rescued in Guwahati
Guwahati: In a major operation, at least seven child labours have been rescued by the Labour Commissioner and Noonmati Police from a business establishment in Narengi Tiniali of Guwahati city on Thursday.
According to reports, the children were working on various projects in the businesses.
Based on a complaint by the locals, the children were rescued.
Notably, Assam police recently rescued 48 children including four women, from a West Bengal-based interstate child trafficking racket.
According to reports, they were all saved and brought to Assam from West Bengal.
It has been learned that the children were forced into child labour in West Bengal after being trafficked there from Assam.
The children who were saved are currently being held at the Fatasil Child Welfare Committee in Guwahati for further proceedings.
Child maltreatment is a constant effect of child trafficking, which is linked to child labour. All types of abuse—physical, mental, sexual, and emotional—are committed against trafficked children.
Children who have been trafficked may be forced into prostitution, forced into marriage, or unlawful adoption; they may also be made to work as house maids or beggars or perform cheap or unpaid labour; they may also be recruited into armed groups.
