Seven Detained, Including Five Police Officers, in Bribery Case in Assam

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Assam has detained seven individuals, including five police officers and two drivers from the Bajali police station, for allegedly accepting bribes.

The persons that have been brought to CID PS for further investigations are:

  • Puskal Gogoi, DySP (HQ), Bajali.
  • SI Anup Jyoti Patiri, O/C, Patacharkuchi PS.
  • SI (P) Debajit Giri, i/c Bhawanipur OP under Patacharkuchi PS.
  • ASI Sasanka Das of Patacharkuchi PS.
  • ABC Injamamul Hassan, PSO of Smti Gayatri Sonowal, the then Addl SP (HQ), Bajali.
  • HG(Driver) Deepjoy Roy, driver to SP Bajali.
  • HG (Driver) Nabir Ahmed, part time driver of SP, Bajali.

The arrests followed allegations made by a supari businessman, leading to a comprehensive investigation. The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, had laid a trap in the first week of August after receiving a complaint about extortion. While the initial trap was unsuccessful, a criminal case was registered on August 31 based on the prima facie truth of the complaint.
