Seven killed in massive fire in Delhi
Guwahati: At least seven persons were killed in a massive fire that broke out in the shanties of Delhi on Saturday.
The incident took place at around 1 am in the Gokulpuri area of the national capital.
According to reports, around 60 shanties were gutted in the fire.
Meanwhile, 13 fire tenders rushed to the affected place and doused the fire.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of Northeast Delhi, Devesh Kumar Mahla said, “A fire broke out at 1 am in the Gokalpuri PS area. Teams arrived on the scene right away with all of the necessary rescue equipment. We also alerted the fire department, which responded quickly and efficiently. By 4 a.m., we should be able to put out the fire.”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his grief over the incident. He tweeted in Hindi, “Heard the sad news early in the morning. I will go to the spot and meet the affected people personally.”
Moreover, MP from North East Delhi, Manoj Tiwari expressed grief over the deaths of seven people. He also demanded a judicial enquiry into the incident from CM Kejriwal. “A judicial inquiry should be conducted into the whole matter and an assistance of Rs 1 crore should be announced immediately to the kin,” he said. Manoj Tiwari will visit the Gokulpuri area today.
However, the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
