Seven Militants Nabbed in Manipur Crackdown Across Five Districts
Imphal: In a significant counter-insurgency operation, security forces in Manipur arrested seven militants affiliated with various banned outfits from different districts, including Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, and Imphal East, police sources confirmed on Thursday.
Among the arrests, two active cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) — RK Mubisana Meitei (47) and Moirangthem Naresh Singh (28) — were apprehended from Leirongthel Prita in Thoubal district. The duo, suspected of being involved in extortion, were found in possession of a 9mm and a .32mm pistol, along with seven live cartridges.
In Bishnupur district, police arrested Moirangthem Chinglen Singh (44), an active member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Koireng), from his residence in Kangmong Meisnam Maning Leikai. Another cadre from the same faction, Asem Nanao Singh (31), was nabbed in Kakching’s Lamdong area. Both were allegedly engaged in extortion activities targeting local residents and businesses.
In Imphal East’s Minuthong area, a UNLF (Pambei) member identified as Waikhom Rajesh Singh (32) was arrested for reportedly extorting money from cargo service providers operating in the Imphal Valley.
Meanwhile, a self-styled ‘Sergeant Major’ of the banned CKLA/UPLF group, David Ngamjang (25), was apprehended from Saikot village in Churachandpur. Security forces recovered a 9mm pistol and three live cartridges from his possession.
Additionally, a militant from the KCP (Taibanganba) outfit, also involved in extortion, was captured in Waikhong area of Kakching district.
All seven accused are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings under relevant laws are being initiated, with further operations expected as part of the continued crackdown on militant activity in the state.
