This was the TMC’s first recruitment drive in Guwahati of Assam.
Meanwhile, Ripun Bora has been named the party’s Assam unit’s president.
After Sushmita Dev, Ripun Bora was the second prominent Congress leader from Assam to join the TMC.
In Meghalaya, the Congress party suffered a huge flight of prominent officials, including 12 sitting MLAs, including former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
Mukul Sangma, the former chief minister of Meghalaya who defected to the TMC, said, “Slowly, Congress politicians from all ranks in Northeast states would abandon the grand old party.”
Sangma continued, “There are some leaders in the Congress who are ardent supporters of the BJP by heart, but they realise that the BJP has no chance of winning in some constituencies, so they show that they are supporters of the Congress.”
