Several families left homeless After the Brahmaputra wipes out homes & lands In Assam
Guwahati: The Brahmaputra River wrecked devastation in Assam’s Morigaon area wiping out thousands of acres of dwellings and forcing several families to leave their homes in search of safer locations.
“Our Murkata village is in a terrible state. Our house and land were gobbled up by the Brahmaputra River. We don’t know where we’re going or what we’re going to eat. There are about 100 families living there, and most of them have been impacted by the erosion of the river “Prastuti Mandal, a villager said.
Prastuti Mandal and her family lived in Murkata village for many years which is part of the Mayang revenue circle in Assam’s Morigaon district. However, they are currently homeless because their land and home were destroyed by the Brahmaputra.
Many other families, in addition to Prastuti Mandal, are getting ready to relocate to safer areas after losing everything to river erosion.
“About 80 families have been impacted by the erosion of the river. We have no idea where we’re going “Samir Ranjan Mandal, according to another villager.
A Durga temple was recently swallowed by the powerful Brahmaputra River, putting the construction of the water delivery infrastructure in jeopardy.
Given the current circumstances, many villagers are currently packing up their goods and fleeing their homes.
The Brahmaputra River and its tributaries have reportedly eroded roughly 4.27 lakh hectares of Assam’s land, according to the state’s government.
This year the flood and landslides have claimed 192 lives in the state, so far.
