Several People in Assam Rescued During Idol Immersion
Guwahati: Several people were rescued after they drowned during the immersion of a Goddess Durga idol in Sonitpur district of Assam on Wednesday.
According to reports, the incident took place near Missamari’s Gabharu River where the water level surged during immersion.
When the devotees went to bid farewell to Goddess Durga in the immersion after the four-day Durga Puja event, several individuals drowned as the water level rose.
The locals arrived on the scene quickly and saved those who had fallen into the river.
Meanwhile, an accident that occurred during the immersion of idols in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri left eight people dead and a number of others unaccounted for.
According to reports, the unfortunate tragedy occurred when hundreds of people were gathering on the banks of the Mal River to participate in the immersion rite on Vijayadashami.
