Severe Flooding and Landslides Hit Arunachal Pradesh Following Cloudburst
Northeast Desk, 23th June: Arunachal Pradesh faced severe flooding and landslides on Sunday morning following an unexpected cloudburst, causing chaos in the twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun. The cloudburst struck around 10.30 am, triggering landslides in various parts of Itanagar and neighboring areas. In addition, portions of NH-415 were submerged, aggravating transportation challenges in the affected regions.
An official from the Disaster Management Department commented on the situation, stating, “Despite no prior warning or forecast of heavy rain in Itanagar, a cloudburst occurred along with intense rainfall in ICR, leading to widespread flooding and landslides.”
Local authorities swiftly responded by assessing the extent of damage and initiating relief efforts to aid affected residents. The unexpected nature of the cloudburst underscored the vulnerability of the region to sudden weather disturbances, necessitating ongoing monitoring and preparedness measures.
