Shashi Tharoor Will File Nomination For Cong President On Sept 30
Guwahati: Senior Congressman and MP Shashi Tharoor would submit his nomination for the position of party president on September 30, reports stated.
He will approach delegates from different states because he has five sets of nomination papers, and he will require 50 delegates to propose his candidacy, according to Tharoor.
The Congress will have a non-Gandhi leader for the first time in 25 years
after Sonia Gandhi defeated Jitendra Prasad in 1998.
The party last had a non-Gandhi leader in that position when Sitaram Kesri defeated Sharad Pawar and Rajesh Pilot in 1996.
Madhusudan Mistri, the chairman of the Central Election Authority, would be on hand at Congress’s national headquarters to accept nominations for returning officers.
The aforementioned elections for the party’s new president are scheduled to take place on October 17 at all PCCs, according to a notification issued by the Congress Party. The results will be made public on October 19 right after the results of the vote counting.
The complete list of candidates will be made public on October 8 at 5pm.
Mistry has urged the Congress party’s delegates to choose the president of the Indian National Congress in accordance with the guidelines established by Article 18.
There were rumours that Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, had expressed a desire to run for the party’s top office. Gehlot, however, clarified his selection for the All India Congress Committee (AICC) presidential race.
Digvijay Singh, a leader in the Congress, declared on Friday that he was not running for party leader. The senior politician announced his decision to not run for president of the Congress during a press conference in Jabalpur, but said that he would accept any instructions given to him by the party’s higher ups.
There is a significant build-up to the Congress president election after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced his candidacy on Friday. Rahul Gandhi has stated categorically that “no member of the Gandhi family” will take over as the party’s next leader, according to Gehlot.
Meanwhile, Ashok Gehlot and Shashi Tharoor are currently the front-runners for the position following Digvijay Singh’s clarification.
Rahul Gandhi called the job of Congress president a “ideological post” that “represents a set of beliefs, a belief system, and a vision of India.”
