Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Elected as UAE President
Guwahati: Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been chosen the President of the United Arab Emirates by the Supreme Council on Saturday.
He succeeded Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died on Friday at the age of 73.
For years, Mohammed bin Zayed (MbZ), the former president’s half-brother, has ruled the UAE de facto, notably after Khalifa suffered a stroke in 2014.
“We congratulate him and pledge allegiance to him as do our people…and the entire country will follow his leadership to glory,” Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, who is also UAE vice-president and premier, said in a Twitter post.
