Shillong: Another extortion racket busted in EKH, 4 held including woman
Northeast Desk, 28th October: In a significant operation aimed at curbing criminal elements seeking to profit through threats and intimidation directed at traders and businesses, the Special Cell of East Khasi Hills (EKH) conducted a successful crackdown on an extortion racket operating in Shillong city.
On Friday afternoon, they apprehended four individuals involved in the racket, including a woman, at the Palace Hotel in Ïewduh.
The suspects were found in possession of several counterfoils and a book titled ‘Ki Khlur u Hynniewtrep’.

The swift police action was initiated following a filed FIR, which detailed an incident that occurred on the evening of Thursday, October 26, 2023, during which the extortionists demanded Rs. 15,000 from an individual, to be paid by Friday.
The police set up a trap, and when the extortionists arrived to collect the ransom, they were promptly arrested.
A case has been registered under Lumdiengjri PS C/no. 146(10)23, invoking sections 384/506/34 of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the case, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to tackling such criminal activities.
