Shivraj Singh Chouhan Begins Key 4-Day Northeast Tour, Focuses on PMAY Housing Push
Guwahati: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan landed at Guwahati Airport last night, marking the start of a significant four-day tour across Assam, Nagaland, and Mizoram, with a focus on reviewing and accelerating flagship welfare schemes, notably the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Speaking to the press, Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass highlighted the importance of the visit, stating:
“Shivraj Singh Chouhan has come for a 4-day visit and will be attending programs across the entire Northeast. There is a strong possibility of progress on the allocation of houses left under the PM Awas Yojana.”
According to Dass:
• Over 25 lakh houses have already been constructed in Assam under PMAY.
• 3.8 lakh units remain to be sanctioned.
• A survey is underway to identify remaining eligible beneficiaries.
Dass added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state government is working diligently to close the housing gap and deliver on the welfare promises.
During his tour, Minister Chouhan is expected to:
• Hold review meetings with state officials.
• Interact with beneficiaries of PMAY.
• Visit project sites to assess ground-level implementation.
The visit underscores the Centre’s heightened focus on the Northeast, as infrastructure and welfare initiatives gather pace in the run-up to upcoming electoral cycles.
