Shocking Cow Smuggling Racket Exposed in Assam Despite Government’s Efforts
Guwahati, 24th July: In a startling revelation, a cow smuggling syndicate operating from Bokakhat’s Behora Bazar has come to light, raising concerns about the ongoing illegal activity despite the Assam government’s strong stance on cattle protection.
According to reports, the illicit trade involves smugglers crossing the Golaghat-Nagaon border and stockpiling cattle in the Kuthari area of Nagaon and Harmoti in Lakhimpur district. These animals are then supplied to various states across the country.
Thousands of cattle are reportedly smuggled regularly from Bokakhat to Nagaon district, leaving locals in the area questioning the effectiveness of police action.
A member of the AJYCP (Assam Jatiyotabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad) expressed dismay, stating, “Over 30 to 40 pickup trucks loaded with cattle are taken to the weekly market at Behora Bazaar on Sundays. However, we have not noticed any actions from the local police in this regard. Despite having to pass through three police stations on their way to the market, none of them are taking strict measures against these smugglers.”
