Shocking Incident at Assam Medical College Hospital: Mentally Challenged Woman Allegedly Raped by Housekeeping Staff

Guwahati, July 28, 2024 In a deeply disturbing incident, a mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped by a member of the housekeeping staff at Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh. The accused, Mujibur Rahman, a supervisor employed by BDM Enterprise, a company contracted for housekeeping services, has been taken into custody.

The Dibrugarh police have registered the case under Section 64(2)(k) of the 2023 Indian Code of Justice, case number 292/24, at Sadar Police Station. The assault reportedly took place on the night of Friday, July 26, within the hospital premises.

The victim, a young woman with mental disorders, has been a familiar figure at the hospital for the past 15 years, receiving care and support from various departments. The hospital community is in shock, grappling with the violation of a vulnerable individual who has been under their informal care for over a decade.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the case to ensure justice for the victim and address the severe breach of trust and safety within the hospital environment.
