Shubman Gill Breaks Into ICC Test Top 10 After Historic Double Ton; Harry Brook Becomes New No. 1

Indian captain Shubman Gill has soared into the top 10 of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, reaching a career-best No. 6 after a sensational performance in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.

Gill etched his name in cricketing history in Birmingham, becoming the first-ever batter to score both a double century and a 150-plus score in the same Test match. He smashed 269 runs in the first innings and followed it up with 161 in the second, powering India to over 1000 team runs in the match. The visitors went on to crush England by 336 runs, leveling the five-match series 1-1 in dominant fashion.

His explosive form has seen him jump 106 rating points, climbing from his previous career-best rank of 14 to No. 6 with 807 points. Since taking over as Test captain, Gill has silenced critics of his overseas record, delivering a string of commanding performances with the bat and showing sharp tactical acumen.

Meanwhile, England’s Harry Brook has risen to the top of the Test batting rankings, displacing former skipper Joe Root to become the new world No. 1. Root, once a fixture at the summit, slips following a string of underwhelming performances in the ongoing series.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been another standout for India, retains his No. 4 ranking, cementing his status as one of the most consistent young batters in red-ball cricket.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant, despite scoring centuries in both innings of the first Test and a rapid-fire 65 in Birmingham, has dropped a spot to No. 7. His slip in rankings comes despite consistent form with the bat, highlighting the tight competition at the top tier of Test batting.

With the series now finely poised, the third Test promises more fireworks as India, led by a rejuvenated Shubman Gill, looks to seize the momentum against a shaken England side.
