Guwahati, 29th April: Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has sounded the alarm over the existence of a fraudulent Facebook account created in his name, featuring a profile picture of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. Expressing urgency, Gogoi has called upon authorities to swiftly address this concerning issue.
Taking to Twitter to address the situation, Gogoi voiced his concerns, stating, “I would like to inform you that a nefarious person is running a fake account in my name on Facebook. It would be highly appreciable if the police could identify the culprit and take necessary actions against the miscreant within the precincts of the law.”
Amid apprehensions regarding the misuse of his identity, Gogoi has directed his plea to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam Police, G P Singh, urging for a prompt investigation and the implementation of requisite measures to curb the unlawful activity.
The proliferation of counterfeit social media profiles impersonating public figures poses a significant challenge, often leading to the dissemination of false information and facilitating fraudulent activities.
