Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar in Delhi, Congress to Decide Karnataka CM Today

National Desk, 16 May: Today the drama of speculation about the selection of Chief Minister of Karnataka will fall. Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge is likely to announce the name of the chief minister of the state. It is learnt that the next Chief Minister of Karnataka will be chosen after a crucial meeting with two leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar who are claiming to be the chief minister, in New Delhi.

In fact, the biggest problem before the Congress is that both Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar who are in the race for the Chief Minister of Karnataka, are senior party leaders and have played a key role in winning the assembly elections.

In the Karnataka assembly election results, the Congress won 135 seats while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) led by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda won 66 seats and 19 seats respectively.

Now the question is who will be the chief minister in Karnataka? There is a lot of discussion going on in the Congress party in this regard. Successive meetings of party leaders are underway in Bengaluru and Delhi. In fact, the biggest problem before the Congress is that both Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar, who are in the race for the Chief Minister of Karnataka are senior party leaders and have played a key role in winning the assembly elections. In such a situation the party cannot afford to offend anyone.

Karnataka state Congress president D K Shivakumar left for Delhi on Tuesday morning to hold talks with the party’s central leadership on the issue of government formation in the state amid a tough fight for the chief minister’s post along with senior leader Siddaramaiah. The Congress national leadership has summoned both Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah to Delhi for talks. Before leaving for Delhi on Tuesday, Shivakumar said that “the Congress general secretary has instructed me to come alone, I will go to Delhi alone”.
