Siddaramaiah to be the Next CM of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar as Deputy CM

National Desk, 18 May: The political impasse over Karnataka’s future chief minister has been resolved after several days of rumours. The most recent reports state that Siddaramaiah has been chosen to be the next Chief minister and DK Shivakumar as his deputy.

It is known that Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reached an agreement over a video conference call on Wednesday night.

According to reports, Kharge will make the official announcement during this evening’s Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru. And the oath-taking ceremony will take place in Bengaluru on May 20.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) has requested that central observers travel to Bengaluru where the party has scheduled a meeting for this evening.

After the Congress swept to power by gaining 135 seats in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly elections on May 10, a fierce power struggle over who will lead the southern state has been obvious for the past few days.

An announcement regarding the new Karnataka chief minister would be made today or tomorrow, according to Congress’ Karnataka-in-charge Randeep Surjewala and a new government will be in place within 72 hours.
