Significant Arms and Explosives Seized in Manipur Amid Intensified Security Operations
Northeast, August 24 — Security forces in Manipur have made substantial seizures of arms, ammunition, and explosives in extensive search operations across the state’s hill and valley districts. The operations, focused on enhancing security and maintaining area domination, have uncovered a wide range of weaponry, underscoring the ongoing challenges in the region.
In Bishnupur District, the security personnel uncovered a significant cache of arms, including:
- One AK Assault rifle
- A .303 bolt action rifle
- A 12-bore single-barrel gun
- Several pistols with magazines
Additionally, the recovery in this district included:
- Eleven HE-36 hand grenades
- Eight detonators
- Various other explosive devices and ammunition
- An improvised mortar with a bipod and two improvised mortar shells
The areas of *Wainem, Keinou Maning, and *Ayokpa Khun were particularly noted for these recoveries.
In Kakching District, security forces seized:
- An INSAS rifle with a loaded magazine
- A 9mm pistol with an empty magazine
- Five HE-36 grenades
- A BP vest
- Several blank rounds
- Other tactical gear and ammunition
These operations highlight the ongoing efforts to secure the region amidst unrest and tensions. Alongside the arms recoveries, security forces facilitated the movement of essential goods, with 65 vehicles traveling along NH-37 and 54 vehicles on NH-2 under strict security measures.
To bolster security, 105 checkpoints were established across various districts, leading to the detention of 224 individuals for violations related to the ongoing security operations. The authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain peace and prevent further violence in the state.
