Sikkim: 21-year-old Ferris Wheel Operator Arrested for Sexual Assault of Minor Girl in Rangpo

RANGPO, SIKKIM: In a chilling incident, a 7-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a 21-year-old man in Sikkim’s Rangpo.

The accused, identified as Pankaj Kumar, an operator at the ongoing Goliground Fair, was apprehended by local police following an immediate investigation.

The horrifying incident unfolded when Kumar allegedly lured the young girl away from her home in G, Rangpo.

The victim, traumatized by the ordeal, recounted to her mother that the man had touched her inappropriately and attempted further assault.

Fortunately, the child’s screams alerted her elder sister and a nearby resident, who intervened. The accused, sensing danger, fled the scene.

The family immediately rushed the child to the Rangpo Primary Health Centre, where the medical officer, Dr. R L, confirmed the assault.

Based on the victim’s harrowing testimony and her sister’s identification, the local police launched an immediate investigation.

Acting immediately, they apprehended Pankaj Kumar, a resident of Nirpur in Bihar’s Nalanda district, who was working as a ferris wheel operator at the Goliground Fair.

The police have registered a case against Kumar under Sections 5(m) and 6 of the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

This heinous crime has sent shockwaves through the local community, and the police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
