Sikkim: 3 people killed in road mishap, 1 critically injured

Northeast Desk, 13th January: In a tragic incident in Sikkim, three lives were lost in a devastating road accident. The unfortunate event unfolded on the Yangyang-Neeya route, where the vehicle they were travelling in met with a disastrous fate, plunging nearly 500 feet into a gorge in Yangang.

The victims of the accident were identified as Lakpa Tshering Sherpa (36) from Sang Khola, Palchen Sherpa (16) from Pabing Yangang, and Sonam Sherpa (51) from Pabing Yangang. Alongside the loss of life, another individual, 15-year-old Phurden Sherpa from Pabing Upper Niya, suffered critical injuries and is presumably undergoing intensive medical treatment.

Authorities have registered a case at Yangang Police Station under section 279/337/338/304/A IPC to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

This heart-wrenching accident serves as a solemn reminder of the inherent dangers on Sikkim’s roads, emphasizing the pressing need for sustained efforts to enhance road safety and avert such devastating occurrences in the future.
