Sikkim: 9th Jorethang Open Badminton Championship Kicks Off Amid Enthusiasm
Gangtok: The 9th Jorethang Open Badminton Championship commenced today at the Indoor Badminton Hall in Sikkim’s Praking Plaza, bringing together players and enthusiasts for a four-day celebration of athletic prowess.
Running from January 23 to 26, 2025, the tournament features intense competition across multiple categories, catering to both young talents and seasoned players.
The opening ceremony, infused with local cultural pride, saw MLA Satish Chandra Rai as the chief guest. Rai, symbolizing the event’s significance for the community, was warmly welcomed by Madan Cintury, the championship’s chief patron, with a traditional khada and floral presentation. The gesture highlighted the region’s rich sporting and cultural heritage.
The tournament features a wide range of categories: Boys’ Singles spanning U-11 to U-19, Girls’ Singles in U-13, U-15, and U-17, as well as Boys’ U-19, Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles divisions.
Adding to the excitement are the veteran matches, with players competing in age brackets of 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, and 55+.
Organized by the Badminton Association of Jorethang, the championship not only celebrates the spirit of sportsmanship but also fosters unity and inspiration across generations.
Players from diverse backgrounds are set to showcase their skills, making this year’s tournament a thrilling and memorable event for participants and spectators alike.
