Sikkim Assembly Gears Up for Crucial Budget Session Starting March 25th
Gangtok: The Sikkim Legislative Assembly is set to convene for a special four-day session commencing on March 25th, a period dedicated to the crucial deliberation of the state’s 2025-26 budget, alongside other vital governmental affairs. Assembly Secretary Lalit Kumar Gurung officially declared the commencement of this session through a formal notification, invoking Rule 16 of the Assembly’s established rules of procedure.
Speaker Mingma Norbu Sherpa has mandated the presence of all assembly members at the Assembly Hall in Gangtok, with the session scheduled to begin promptly at 11:00 am on the inaugural day, March 25th. This upcoming session follows the assembly’s preceding sitting, which concluded on February 21st.
The official notification has meticulously laid out stringent procedural deadlines for the lawmakers. Specifically, members are required to submit their questions for discussion by March 15th. Additionally, any resolutions proposed by the members must be submitted by March 18th, ensuring a minimum of seven days’ notice before the session’s commencement.
Assembly officials have underscored the importance of adhering to the procedural guidelines, emphasizing that all questions submitted must be succinct, pertinent, and fall within the purview of the state government’s jurisdiction. Questions containing argumentative statements, personal observations, or hypothetical scenarios will be deemed inadmissible.
To ensure comprehensive preparation for the session, senior government officials, including the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretaries, have been formally notified. The forthcoming session will primarily concentrate on the financial allocations for the impending fiscal year.
