Sikkim Assembly Passes Bills to Elevate Higher Education

Northeast Desk, 1st March: The Sikkim Legislative Assembly on March 1 achieved a significant milestone by passing a series of bills aimed at enhancing higher education in the state. Led by Kunga Nima Lepcha, the Minister-in-Charge of the Education Department, these bills underscore Sikkim’s dedication to nurturing academic brilliance and ingenuity.

The primary objective of these bills is to carve out new pathways for learning and research, catering to a diverse array of academic disciplines and offering avenues for Sikkim’s youth to excel in academia.

During the Seventh Session (Part-IV) of the assembly, seven pivotal bills were passed, each focused on the establishment of new universities. Noteworthy among these are the Sikkim Pannadhay University Bill, 2024 (Bill No. 15 of 2024), and the Nirmala Devi University Bill, 2024 (Bill No. 16 of 2024), alongside bills for Orchid University, Gurukul Vidyapeeth University, Matrix Skilltech University, Duke International University, and Shri Rukmani Dwarkadhish University of Science and Technology.

The session also saw the introduction of notable bills such as the Sikkim Pannadhay University Bill, 2024 (Bill No. 15 of 2024) and the Nirmala Devi University Bill, 2024 (Bill No. 16 of 2024), each aimed at propelling the state’s higher education landscape to greater heights.
