Sikkim BJP Chief Dr. Thapa Pushes for Monsoon Road Safety and Gangtok Ring Road with NHIDCL

Gangtok: Dr. Thapa, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sikkim unit, engaged in a productive dialogue with Ashok Kumar Saha, Executive Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), today at the latter’s regional office in Gangtok. The high-level meeting centred on a comprehensive review of NHIDCL’s ongoing projects within the state and a proactive approach to critical infrastructure challenges.

During the discussions, Dr. Thapa underscored the paramount importance of mitigating disruptions on national highways, especially with the monsoon season currently underway. He urged NHIDCL to escalate road maintenance efforts and implement timely interventions to ensure unhindered and safe passage for the people traversing Sikkim’s vital arteries. The interaction also served as a continuation of Dr. Thapa’s recent deliberations with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture, where he had presented a memorandum to Shri Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, MP from Karnataka, advocating for a much-needed Ring Road around Gangtok to alleviate future traffic bottlenecks in the capital.

Reiterating the ambitious Ring Road proposal with Mr. Saha, Dr. Thapa delved into its feasibility, potential alignment strategies, and anticipated hurdles. He articulated the project’s crucial role in revolutionising traffic management and enhancing urban mobility within Gangtok, envisioning it as a significant boon for both residents and the burgeoning tourist influx. Furthermore, Dr. Thapa stressed the imperative of developing sustainable and robust infrastructure to support Sikkim’s expanding tourism and economic landscape. He called upon NHIDCL to accelerate project timelines while maintaining uncompromised quality standards and to remain attuned to local concerns and public feedback. The meeting vividly showcased BJP Sikkim’s unwavering commitment to fostering strong collaborations with central agencies, aiming to expedite infrastructure development and address the pressing concerns of the populace across the state.
