Sikkim BJP – Mahila Morcha Raises Women’s Safety Concerns with Governor
Northeast Desk, 21st September: The Sikkim BJP – Mahila Morcha on September 21 met with Governor Om Prakash Mathur to address urgent issues regarding women’s safety and security in the state.
Srijana Chettri, General Secretary of the Mahila Morcha, presented a letter detailing alarming trends in women trafficking and rising crimes against women. She emphasized that many women have fallen victim to deceptive practices promising employment, resulting in numerous unresolved cases of missing persons.
Chettri also highlighted an increase in violent crimes, including rape and domestic abuse, often involving victims related to their assailants.
To tackle these pressing issues, the BJP has called for comprehensive awareness programs aimed at educating women about their rights and available legal protections. The initiative seeks to engage local leaders and organizations to foster a safer environment for women throughout Sikkim.
