Sikkim Celebrates Ambedkar Jayanti, CM Tamang Emphasizes Equality and Justice
Gangtok: Sikkim’s Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, commemorated Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14th, delivering a heartfelt message that resonated with the spirit of the day. He extended his warmest greetings to the citizens of Sikkim and the entire nation, emphasizing the enduring relevance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s teachings and vision in India’s ongoing pursuit of equality and justice.
The Chief Minister articulated that Ambedkar Jayanti transcends mere celebration, serving as a pivotal moment for introspection on the fundamental values of equality, liberty, and fraternity championed by Dr. Ambedkar. He recognized Dr. Ambedkar as a distinguished jurist, a transformative social reformer, and the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, whose profound contributions have indelibly shaped the modern Indian state.
“Dr. Ambedkar dedicated his life to fostering a society where individuals are not judged based on caste or background,” CM Tamang stated. “His life serves as a powerful reminder of the paramount importance of education, justice, and equal rights for every citizen.”
CM Tamang further highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s unwavering advocacy for gender equality and universal education, particularly for marginalized and underprivileged communities. He referenced the establishment of the Bahishkrit Hitkarni Sabha in 1923, a testament to Dr. Ambedkar’s deep commitment to inclusive growth and justice for the oppressed.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the conferral of the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, posthumously awarded to Dr. Ambedkar in recognition of his extraordinary service to the nation. He noted the Government of India’s decision in 2021 to declare April 14th a public holiday, further solidifying the nation’s respect for Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy and his lifelong struggle for the rights of the downtrodden.
CM Tamang concluded his address by urging all citizens to draw inspiration from Dr. Ambedkar’s life and work, striving to build a society characterized by fairness, inclusivity, and freedom from discrimination. “Let us unite in our efforts to uphold the values enshrined in our Constitution, fostering a spirit of unity and mutual understanding,” he implored.
