Sikkim Celebrates Buddha Purnima with Messages of Peace and Reflection
Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang conveyed warm greetings to the people of Sikkim and the global community on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima. This significant festival, also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti, commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and attainment of Nirvana of Lord Gautama Buddha.
“This sacred day, marked by the full moon, holds immense spiritual significance for followers of Buddhism around the world. As we celebrate, we remember Lord Buddha’s teachings of peace, compassion, non-violence, and universal brotherhood,” stated Chief Minister Tamang, emphasizing the profound importance of the day.
The Chief Minister further noted how Lord Buddha’s transformative journey from Prince Siddhartha Gautama to an esteemed spiritual leader serves as a continuous source of inspiration for humanity. In Sikkim, the festival is observed with deep sincerity and devotion. Devotees throughout the state and across India participate in rituals such as fasting, meditation, and acts of service, reflecting their strong connection to Lord Buddha’s core values.
“As we come together to celebrate this holy day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles Lord Buddha stood for. May this Buddha Purnima bring joy, harmony, and inner peace to every household and strengthen the spirit of unity and compassion among all Sikkimese people,” concluded Chief Minister Tamang, extending his best wishes for a peaceful and reflective celebration.
