Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Celebrates Empowerment and Progress on Jan Unmukti Diwas

Northeast Desk, 10th August: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang marked the 7th Jan Unmukti Diwas celebration at Rangpo by reaffirming his government’s commitment to empowering the underprivileged. Speaking on the historic occasion, Tamang emphasized that the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government is dedicated to ensuring that even the poorest citizens can aspire to great heights and live with dignity.

Reflecting on his release from central jail on August 10, 2018, Tamang recounted the struggles endured under the previous Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) regime, describing it as oppressive and unjust. “Today is not just the anniversary of my release, but also the liberation of all those who suffered under the corrupt rule of the SDF,” Tamang declared, marking August 10 as a significant day in Sikkim’s history.

Tamang highlighted the progress achieved since the SKM came to power in 2019, especially in enhancing education and healthcare access for the poor. “Before 2018, Sikkim was not a place where the poor had access to quality education or healthcare,” he said. “Today, even a poor daughter from Sikkim can study at prestigious institutions like the University of Cambridge. This is a testament to our government’s achievements.”

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the people of Sikkim for their support, which resulted in SKM’s decisive victory in the recent elections, securing 31 out of 32 seats. He also welcomed the lone SDF member who joined SKM, solidifying the party’s dominance in the legislative assembly.

“Under the SKM government, the voices of the poor are heard, and they can now hold their heads high,” Tamang concluded.
