Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Endorses ‘One Nation, One Election’ System
Northeast Desk, 19th September: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on September 19 expressed strong support for the ‘one nation, one election’ system recently approved by the Union Cabinet. This proposal, based on a report by a panel led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, seeks to synchronize elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, urban bodies, and panchayats within the next 100 days.
In a Facebook post, Tamang praised the initiative, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s view that it represents a significant step towards enhancing the vibrancy and participatory nature of Indian democracy. He highlighted several benefits of implementing simultaneous elections nationwide, including economic efficiency, streamlined electoral processes, and a unified approach to governance.
Tamang underscored that the proposed system would simplify the electoral process for voters, potentially leading to greater participation. Additionally, he predicted that it could foster faster economic growth and enhance stability for the nation’s economy.
