Sikkim Chief Minister Provides Relief to Stranded Tourist Vehicle Drivers after Flash Flood

Northeast Desk, 21st October: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, extended a helping hand to drivers of tourist vehicles who were stranded in North Sikkim due to a flash flood. The drivers, comprising over 223 individuals, were trapped in Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang when road connectivity to the Mangan district in the northern part of the state was severed by the Teesta river flash flood on October 4.

During a distribution ceremony on Friday, the Chief Minister handed over Rs 20,000 cheques to these stranded drivers. He expressed his hope that this relief, provided by the state government, would alleviate the difficulties faced by the drivers in this challenging situation.

Tamang also revealed that the Sikkim Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) received a generous donation of Rs 2 crore from Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Pema Khandu. He extended his gratitude to Chief Ministers Pema Khandu and Conrad Sangma of Meghalaya for their support during this trying period.

The Sikkim Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the various individuals and organizations that stepped forward and contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF). Their donations will aid the people of Sikkim who were affected by the flash flood, helping them recover from the calamity.
