Sikkim: Citizen Action Party (CAP) Officially Registered with the Election Commission of India
Northeast Desk, 6th December: The Citizen Action Party-Sikkim (CAP) has achieved formal recognition by the Election Commission of India, having submitted its registration application on February 21, 2023.
The party, formed on January 26, 2023, received registration under section 29a of the Representation of Peoples Act, 1951, with registration number 56/062/2023, PPS-IV 1951.
CAP, led by former Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) leader Ganesh Rai, officially launched on Republic Day in Melli, South Sikkim.
A departure from the norm, CAP doesn’t include ‘Sikkim’ in its name, emphasizing that the state’s essence is inherent in the people.
Rai highlighted the urgent need for sincere reforms, criticizing the current state of affairs and positioning CAP as an alternative to existing political entities.
CAP’s reform-oriented agenda spans various sectors, including politics and governance. Rai criticized what he described as the looting of Sikkim and pledged to bring comprehensive changes. One notable policy is the decision not to have an official party flag, aiming to eliminate divisive symbols in politics. The party plans to rely on crowdfunding instead of traditional fundraising methods.
Emphasizing the active involvement of youth in meaningful political participation, CAP’s approach marks a departure from conventional practices.
The official registration positions CAP to contest elections and present its vision for the future of Sikkim’s governance. The party’s unique policies and commitment to reform could reshape the political landscape in the state.
