Sikkim: Class 9 Student Killed in Road Accident in Singtam

Gangtok: A pall of gloom descended upon Singtam on Tuesday morning after a 14-year-old Class 9 student, identified as Bikram, was tragically mowed down by a speeding truck. The horrific incident occurred around 8 a.m. near Singtam in Gangtok district, as the young boy was en route to his school hostel. Bikram was a student at Mt. Simvo Academy in Jorthang.

Police officials swiftly responded to the scene, apprehending the truck driver immediately. Eyewitnesses and initial police reports suggest the truck was travelling at an excessive speed when it struck the teenager. The driver is currently in custody at Singtam Police Station, and a thorough investigation into the matter has been launched by the authorities.

Following the accident, Bikram’s body was transported to Singtam Hospital for a post-mortem examination. After the necessary procedures, his remains were handed over to his grieving family. The devastating loss has prompted local officials to reassess existing traffic safety measures in the area, with discussions underway to prevent such heart-wrenching incidents in the future.
