Sikkim CM Attends 71st Plenary of North Eastern Council in Shillong
Northeast Desk, 19th January: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, accompanied by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, participated in the 71st Plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya. Chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the meeting saw the presence of Governors and Chief Ministers from North Eastern States, along with Union Minister of DoNER Mr G Kishan Reddy and Minister of State, DoNER, BL Verma.
Expressing gratitude to the Central Government for continuous support, Chief Minister Tamang highlighted the recent crisis in Sikkim due to a catastrophic flood, expressing thanks for the timely support. He appealed for additional funds for restoration activities post the PMGSY work extension until March 2024. The Chief Minister urged an early solution for the weakened Retaining Wall at Pakyong Greenfield Airport and discussed the “Mero Rukh Mero Santati” programme’s global recognition.
Tamang emphasized the significance of the Multi-Modal Corridor connecting Sikkim and Eastern Nepal for national security and called for a new industrial investment policy to encourage manufacturing employment in the North-East. He reiterated the demand for the Limboo Tamang community’s Scheduled Tribe status and bringing the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee to Sikkim. The Chief Minister congratulated on the “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra” and extended wishes for the historic consecration of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.
