Sikkim CM Chairs Coordination Meeting for Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela Preparations

Northeast Desk, 12th January: The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, took the lead in a coordination meeting on January 12, 2024, to supervise the arrangements for the upcoming Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela, scheduled to commence on January 15, 2024.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Tamang conveyed National Youth Day greetings and emphasized the need for collective efforts to make the event a historic success. He urged committee members and involved departments to work collaboratively, underscoring the importance of cohesion.

To enhance the festivities, Chief Minister Tamang proposed the inclusion of the Rural Sports Football tournament and the Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela Open Football tournament to attract larger crowds. Addressing economic aspects, he highlighted potential business opportunities associated with the event, urging the committee to ensure systematic functioning.

Providing a comprehensive report on ongoing preparations, Pavitra Manav, President of NJNP, outlined the progress made for the mega event. Raju Basnet, Secretary of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, presented a detailed report on the scheduled sports events during the mela.

The coordination meeting witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including M N Sherpa, Minister of Power Department and Transport Department, Sunita Gazmer, Area MLA, and Jacob Khaling, Political Secretary to CM, all focusing on aligning efforts to guarantee the success of the event. The gathering also included officials from various line departments, former ministers and MLAs, councillors, and secretaries of Sports and Youth Affairs, as well as the Culture Department.
