Sikkim CM Denies Family’s Involvement in Health Sector, Pledges Resignation with Evidence
Northeast Desk, 28th November: Addressing concerns about alleged family involvement in government affairs, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang refuted claims on November 27, asserting a commitment to transparency and accountability. Speaking at the Teyongsi Sirijunga Sawan Yen celebrations in Hee-Martam, Gyalshing district, CM Tamang dismissed allegations of assigning oxygen supply or equipment-related work to his son. He pledged to resign if evidence surfaced supporting his son’s involvement.
CM Golay clarified that his wife was not assigned any tasks, and he addressed the charitable initiatives led by his younger son through ‘Garib Jan Kalyan Prokasta’. Golay emphasized that the organization, funded by donations, solely serves the welfare of impoverished citizens in Sikkim, refraining from supplying medicines or medical equipment.
To address concerns about potential conflicts of interest, Golay outlined measures ensuring his brother, a contractor, abstained from government-related projects. He stated, “As soon as our government was formed, I strictly told my brother that he cannot do any government-related work.”
Expressing concern about the spread of misinformation in the digital age, Golay urged caution in sharing unverified claims and emphasized responsible information-sharing.
