Sikkim CM Hails Press as “Lifeblood of Democracy” on National Press Day
Gangtok: On the occasion of National Press Day, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended warm greetings to the press and media fraternity, acknowledging their crucial role in sustaining democracy and promoting transparency.
Describing the press as “the lifeblood of democracy,” Tamang highlighted its indispensable contribution to ensuring truth reaches the people and power remains accountable. “Journalists dedicate themselves to uncovering stories that matter, giving voice to the voiceless, and shaping public opinion with integrity and courage,” he stated.
The Chief Minister praised journalists for their relentless commitment to informing, educating, and empowering society, emphasizing that their work underpins the democratic ideals of justice and truth. He further remarked, “A free and responsible press is the foundation of a vibrant democracy, and its role in safeguarding justice and truth cannot be overstated.”
National Press Day, observed annually, commemorates the establishment of the Press Council of India and celebrates the principles of a free and responsible press, reaffirming its significance in upholding democratic values.
