Sikkim CM heads towards Guwahati to attend NEC plenary meeting in Shillong

Guwahati, 18th January: On January 18, 2024, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang boarded the Vande Bharat Express for Guwahati, en route to attend the North Eastern Council (NEC) Plenary meeting scheduled in Shillong on January 19. The NEC, a regional planning body comprising eight northeastern states, will hold its plenary session at the State Convention Centre, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah presiding as the chairperson.

The plenary meeting is a significant event, gathering Governors and Chief Ministers from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, all of whom are NEC members. Union Home Minister Amit Shah serves as the ex-officio chairperson, and G Kishan Reddy, Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), is the vice-chairman.

Reddy, along with Minister of State, DoNER, B.L. Verma, and senior officers of DoNER and NITI Aayog, will participate in the plenary session. The meeting will include the release of the NEC Year Book by Amit Shah. K Moses Chalai, Secretary of NEC, will deliver the welcome address, and Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of DoNER, will brief on activities undertaken in DoNER.
