Sikkim CM Inaugurates World’s Largest Zang-dok-palri Temple at Denjong Mindrolling Monastery

Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on November 11, 2024 inaugurated the world’s largest Zang-dok-palri Temple at the Denjong Mindrolling Monastery, marking a historic achievement for the state.

The ceremony, which also included the consecration of the monastery, attracted attendees from across Sikkim and beyond, celebrating the completion of a monumental project that had been under construction since 2017.

Despite delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the temple’s construction continued, adhering to strict safety protocols, culminating in this grand event. CM Tamang expressed immense pride in the completion of the temple, emphasizing its significance not just for Sikkim, but for the entire Himalayan community and the world. “We are blessed to have such a beautiful and grand monastery here,” he remarked, highlighting the cultural and spiritual importance of the temple.

During his address, CM Tamang also focused on the development of the Sangha constituency, which had long been neglected under the previous Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) government. “For 25 years, the SDF never provided cabinet positions to anyone from the Sangha constituency. But in just five years, we have allocated ₹150 crore to support monasteries and religious institutions,” he said, adding that his government has made significant strides in improving the infrastructure and welfare of religious sites, including the construction of guest houses in Bodh Gaya and the creation of idols for temples throughout Sikkim.

Tamang lauded the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) for prioritizing the Sangha constituency, resulting in substantial progress. He also credited Sonam Lama, the elected representative from the constituency, for his dedication and contributions to the development of the Gumpa, recognizing his cabinet rank and leadership in one of the state’s largest departments.

Coinciding with National Education Day, which commemorates the birth of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister, CM Tamang underscored the role of education in Sikkim’s growth. “Sikkim, being a melting pot of different cultures, thrives on mutual respect and understanding across religious lines,” he remarked.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister assured that efforts would be made to improve infrastructure around the monastery, making it more accessible to visitors and further promoting it as a key tourist attraction. “We are committed to enhancing road networks and facilities to make the journey to this magnificent Gumpa easier for all,” he concluded.
