Sikkim CM Lays Foundation Stone for Major Infrastructure Project in Siliguri
Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has laid the foundation stone for a comprehensive infrastructure project at the SNT complex in Siliguri, aimed at improving public services and facilities for the people of Sikkim.
The project, which spans 2.1 acres of land, includes the construction of a healthcare center, guest house, and a renovated bus terminus.
With a budget of Rs 197 crore, the development will centralize various Sikkim government offices in Siliguri, bringing administrative functions closer to the people. The SNT complex, which has faced challenges due to encroachment issues from nearby structures, is now set to become a hub for essential services in the region. CM Tamang confirmed that the state government had reached an agreement with local residents and received approval from the West Bengal government and Siliguri Municipal Corporation to move forward with the project.
The healthcare center, a key feature of the project, will consist of 50 rooms equipped with kitchen facilities, medical staff, and clinical services. It will cater primarily to Sikkimese residents seeking affordable healthcare options, particularly for those who cannot afford private treatments. The center will also include accommodations for high-ranking government officials, including the Governor, Chief Minister, Assembly Speaker, and legislators. Additionally, the project will feature amenities such as automatic bus parking, taxi vehicle parking, and a shopping complex.
According to CM Tamang, the construction of these facilities is expected to be completed within the next 24 months, providing essential services to the people of Sikkim. He emphasized that Siliguri, as the nearest metropolitan city to Sikkim, plays a critical role in addressing the region’s healthcare and infrastructure needs. The new facilities are designed to meet the needs of the Sikkimese people while easing their access to healthcare and essential services.
