Sikkim CM Prem Singh Pays Tribute to Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Gangtok: Joining global tributes to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed his condolences following Singh’s passing on December 26.

Remembering him as a “visionary leader,” Tamang acknowledged Singh’s pivotal contributions to economic reforms and public service, which have left an enduring impact on the nation.

Dr Singh, aged 92, passed away at AIIMS Delhi on Thursday night after being admitted in critical condition. Reflecting on his legacy, CM Tamang conveyed his sympathies to Singh’s family and loved ones in a heartfelt social media post, stating, “His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.”

Singh’s connection to Sikkim is remembered fondly, particularly his visit to the state on September 29, 2011, following the devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake on September 18 that year. During his visit, the former Prime Minister announced a Rs 1,000 crore relief package to aid recovery efforts, demonstrating his commitment to supporting the northeastern state during a time of crisis.

Dr Singh’s transformative role in shaping India’s economic and political landscape, coupled with his compassionate leadership, remains a source of admiration. His passing marks the end of an era, with his contributions continuing to inspire leaders and citizens across the nation.
