Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Increases Pension for Former Legislators, Emerges as Most Popular CM
Northeast Desk, 25th August: In a significant announcement made during the 22nd Foundation Day celebrations of the Former Legislators’ Federation, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang declared an increase in the pension provided to former legislators in the state. The move reflects the state government’s commitment to recognizing the contributions of its former lawmakers.
“I was pleased to announce that the state government will increase the pension provided to former legislators,” CM Tamang stated, addressing the gathering.
This announcement follows closely on the heels of another notable achievement for CM Tamang. According to the latest Mood of the Nation survey conducted by India Today in collaboration with CVoter, he has emerged as the most popular Chief Minister in his home state. The survey, which included feedback from Sikkim residents, showed a significant boost in his approval ratings, with 55.7% of respondents expressing satisfaction with his performance as of August 2024. This is a substantial increase from 26% in February 2024 and 32.5% in August 2023.
On a national level, CM Tamang also achieved remarkable recognition, ranking as the top performer among 30 incumbent Chief Ministers across India. The survey, conducted between July 15 and August 10, 2024, included responses from 40,591 individuals across all 543 Lok Sabha segments, supplemented by an analysis of 95,872 additional interviews from CVoter’s weekly tracker.
Expressing his gratitude, CM Tamang took to Facebook to thank the people of Sikkim for their overwhelming support. “I am overwhelmed with joy to learn that I have topped the list of the most popular Chief Ministers in my home state. It is your blessings that give me the strength and energy to serve you with utmost sincerity and dedication. No award or recognition is more meaningful to me than the immense love and support I have received from my ‘Sikkimey Janata,'” he wrote.
This dual recognition of CM Tamang’s leadership—both in policy initiatives like the pension increase and in public approval—cements his standing as a pivotal figure in Sikkim’s political landscape.
