Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Leads Delegation to Maha Kumbh Mela for Ritual Bath

Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, took part in the sacred ritual bath at the Maha Kumbh Mela on February 9.

The delegation included the Assembly Speaker, Deputy Speaker, cabinet ministers, and MLAs, underscoring the significance of the pilgrimage for the state’s leadership.

Held at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj, the 45-day religious festival began on January 13 and is expected to draw over 400 million devotees before its conclusion on February 26. As per Hindu belief, the mythical Saraswati river also joins at this sacred site, making it one of the holiest places for spiritual purification.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which follows a 12-year cycle across four cities, is regarded as a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey for many devotees. The ritual bathing is believed to cleanse sins and liberate individuals from the cycle of rebirth, adding to the event’s deep religious significance.

CM Tamang’s participation in the holy dip reflects Sikkim’s cultural and spiritual reverence for the festival, aligning with its broader commitment to preserving and honoring traditional beliefs.
