Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Takes Holy Dip at Triveni Sangam, Calls It a ‘Blessed Moment’
Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed deep spiritual fulfillment after taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
Accompanied by a 72-member delegation from Sikkim, CM Tamang described the experience as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“I feel truly blessed to have taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during the Maha Kumbh. Since this grand event occurs once every 144 years, it is a moment of immense fortune for us,” Tamang stated, acknowledging the sacred significance of the pilgrimage.
The visit was facilitated by an invitation from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who welcomed devotees from across the country. CM Tamang expressed gratitude to his Uttar Pradesh counterpart and shared that he wanted the entire delegation from Sikkim to experience the spiritual grandeur of the Maha Kumbh Mela.
As of February 7, 2025, over 40 crore devotees have participated in the ritualistic bath at Triveni Sangam, with figures released by PIB Delhi confirming that 42 lakh people had taken a dip by 10 am on Friday. With 19 days still remaining in the event, the number is expected to exceed 50 crore.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, recognized as the world’s largest religious gathering, has drawn millions of devotees, including 10 million Kalpavasis, saints, and spiritual seekers from diverse cultural and regional backgrounds. Despite the completion of three major Snan Parvas—Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and Basant Panchami—the enthusiasm among pilgrims remains high.
Among the key highlights, Mauni Amavasya saw the highest turnout, with over 8 crore devotees taking a holy dip. Makar Sankranti witnessed 3.5 crore pilgrims, Paush Purnima recorded 1.7 crore, and Basant Panchami saw more than 2.5 crore worshippers participating in the ritual.
The event has attracted several high-profile figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who have all visited the sacred confluence. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to participate on February 10, further adding to the event’s prominence.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, along with his cabinet, has actively participated in the rituals, while governors and chief ministers from various states, including Anandiben Patel (UP), Bhajan Lal Sharma (Rajasthan), Nayab Singh Saini (Haryana), N. Biren Singh (Manipur), and Bhupendra Patel (Gujarat), have also taken part. Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Shripad Naik have attended the event as well.
In addition to political leaders, the Maha Kumbh 2025 has also drawn celebrity participation, with sports icons like Saina Nehwal and cricketer Suresh Raina, wrestling legend The Great Khali, poet **Kumar Vishwas, and choreographer *Remo D’Souza making an appearance. Senior political figures, including Akhilesh Yadav and Ravi Shankar Prasad, have also been part of the grand congregation.
With the Maha Kumbh continuing to attract pilgrims and dignitaries, its global significance as a spiritual and cultural event remains unparalleled.
