Sikkim Completes Transformative Livestock Training Program for Rural Development
Gangtok: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), successfully concluded a transformative 16-day training program to enhance livestock healthcare and management in Sikkim.
Held from December 3 to 18 at the Sokeythang Training Centre in Tadong, the program trained 25 “Pashusakhis” under the Accredited Agents for Health and Extension of Livestock Production (A-HELP) initiative. Participants, selected from the Sikkim Rural Livelihoods Mission (SRLM), were equipped with advanced skills in animal handling, ration balancing, first aid, and sustainable livestock practices.
The training combined theoretical lessons with hands-on sessions, including visits to the State Veterinary Polyclinic, Mamring Gaushala, and the Sikkim Milk Union, to provide practical exposure.
At the valedictory event on December 19, Dr. Anand Thapa, Principal Director (VS), highlighted the program’s significance. He stated, “Empowering Pashusakhis with this training bridges the gap between veterinary services and rural communities, ensuring better livestock health and a sustainable support system for farmers.”
This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening rural livelihoods and advancing livestock care in Sikkim.
