Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) Alleges Attack on Pawan Chamling by SKM Supporters, Calls it “Murder of Democracy”

Northeast Desk, 8th April: In a dramatic turn of events, former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was allegedly attacked en route to a meeting by supporters of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), purportedly sent by Krishna Golay. The incident unfolded after Chamling carried out a puja at Namchi Bazar and was on his way to a meeting scheduled at Kishan Market today.

According to a press release issued by the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), “On the way, hundreds of SKM supporters stopped Shri Pawan Chamling and physically tried to assault him and suffocate him. He was pushed by hundreds of SKM supporters who tried to attack him in broad daylight. They surrounded Shri Pawan Chamling and suffocated him for a long time with police and onlookers helpless.”

The release further stated, “Luckily SDF supporters were able to push away the SKM goons who began to attack many SDF supporters relentlessly. In the attack that followed, many SDF supporters, including women, were beaten severely and taken to the hospital.”

Describing the incident as a “murder of democracy,” the SDF condemned the alleged aggressive and criminal tactics of PS Golay, accusing him of orchestrating attacks on opposition party candidates. The SDF called Golay “unfit to hold any post in government” and demanded swift action against those responsible for the attack.

The alleged attack on Chamling has intensified political tensions in Sikkim, raising concerns about the safety of opposition party members and the integrity of the electoral process.
