Sikkim Flash Flood: Stranded Nepal Nationals at Lhonak Lake Seek Help

Northeast Desk, 6th October: After a cloudburst above Lhonak Lake in northern Sikkim, which triggered sudden flash floods, distressing footage has emerged featuring two individuals from Nepal who find themselves stranded and in desperate need of assistance.

In a video recording, one of the stranded individuals can be heard explaining that it might take months for the routes to become passable again, and they are urgently pleading for their lives to be rescued.

“Our location, the Muguthang Lhonak valley, has been engulfed by water. We have barely managed to escape with our lives, maintaining a distance of just 100 meters. This area used to be covered in lush green grass, but now it’s submerged in water,” one of them conveyed in the video.

They mentioned a neighboring area named Dolma Sampa, which is also submerged under the rising waters. Furthermore, they expressed their dire situation, emphasizing the lack of access to food supplies due to the destruction of the main road, leaving them isolated.

“I appeal to everyone to assist us and send their well wishes. I am recording this video while my uncle explains the situation here,” another person can be heard saying.

Earlier reports indicated that over 100 individuals have gone missing in the aftermath of the flash floods.
