Sikkim Forest Personnel Unite in Inaugural Sports Meet
Gangtok: Reshithang witnessed a historic moment today as the first-ever Sikkim Forest Sports Meet began at the Khelo India Centre of Excellence.
The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as forest personnel from all corners of the state gathered under the banner of “Sports for Camaraderie.”
This unique initiative aims to strengthen bonds, promote physical well-being, and foster teamwork within the forest department.
The commencement of the three-day sporting extravaganza was marked by the presence of esteemed dignitaries. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Raju Basnett had the honour of officially declaring the meet open.
Adding to the significance of the occasion was the presence of Upper Burtuk Area MLA and advisor Kala Rai, who graced the event as the guest of honour.
The Principal Secretary of the forest department extended a heartfelt welcome to all attendees during the inaugural ceremony.
In his address, he highlighted the crucial role of such gatherings in nurturing stronger relationships among foresters who work diligently across Sikkim’s diverse landscapes.
He also stressed the commitment to environmental sustainability throughout the event, urging all participants to uphold cleanliness standards and ensure a positive environmental impact.
The opening day saw spirited participation in various athletic events, as individuals representing different forest divisions from all six districts of Sikkim took to the field.
The competitions provided a platform for these dedicated personnel to display their athletic prowess and embody the spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie. The meet promises more exciting events over the next two days, further solidifying the bonds within the Sikkim forest department.
