Sikkim: Gangtok Basks in the Vibrant Colours of Lepcha Heritage During Khamri Festival

Sikkim: Gangtok recently witnessed a vibrant celebration of Lepcha culture during the two-day pre-Namsoong festival, Khamri.

Organized by Dzongu Heritage, the event showcased the rich tapestry of Lepcha traditions, including captivating dances, soulful music, and a delectable array of culinary delights.

The exhibition of traditional artefacts provided a fascinating glimpse into the community’s rich history. This year’s theme, Lungthen Saa, underscored the crucial importance of preserving cultural heritage and strengthening community identity.

Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Minister for Forest and Environment and MLA of Dzongu, graced the occasion, emphasizing the pivotal role of such events in safeguarding Lepcha heritage.

He highlighted that Khamri offers a unique platform for younger generations to connect with their roots while providing valuable insights into the unique aspects of Lepcha culture to a wider audience.
