Gangtok: As the calendar inches closer to May 16th, marking a significant milestone of 50 years of statehood, Sikkim is set to amplify its celebratory fervor with an unprecedented and exhilarating motorsport spectacle.

The Burtuk Helipad in Gangtok will transform into an arena of roaring engines and breathtaking stunts on April 22, 2025, at 3:00 PM, as the JK Tyre-powered Indian Racing Festival makes its grand debut in the region. This high-octane event promises to fuse the thrill of motorsport with the pride of Sikkim’s golden jubilee.

For the first time ever, Sikkim will host this prestigious racing festival, showcasing the prowess of professional car and bike stunt riders hailing from various corners of India. These skilled performers will execute daring maneuvers against the stunning panorama of the majestic Himalayas, creating a visual feast for attendees.

This landmark event, meticulously planned as an integral part of the state’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, underscores Sikkim’s burgeoning stature as a vibrant hub for both adventure tourism and a growing passion for motorsport.

The momentous occasion will be graced by the presence of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who will serve as the Chief Guest. His presence reaffirms the state government’s strong commitment to fostering youth empowerment, nurturing a thriving sporting culture, and promoting tourism-driven development within Sikkim.

Sharing his enthusiasm with the media, Yougan Tamang, the Press Secretary to the Chief Minister, eloquently conveyed the state’s pride. “It is with immense pride that we share this moment with the nation, as our cherished Himalayan state completes 50 glorious years as an integral part of India. This motorsport rally serves as both a heartfelt tribute to our journey and a dynamic showcase of Sikkim’s immense potential in the realms of adventure tourism and sustainable progress.”

A key highlight of the adrenaline-fueled day will be the ceremonial flag-off of ‘Mountain Rush’, Sikkim’s inaugural Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Car Rally. This pioneering rally will traverse diverse terrains across the state, and is anticipated to draw significant participation, with approximately 45 teams comprising 100 to 150 individuals from across the nation. These participants will navigate Sikkim’s winding and picturesque roads, immersing themselves in the state’s natural splendor, rich biodiversity, and vibrant cultural tapestry.

This groundbreaking event is a collaborative effort, jointly organized by Summit Times and Service to Mankind, with unwavering support from the Government of Sikkim. The overarching aim extends beyond mere entertainment; it seeks to significantly elevate Sikkim’s visibility on both the national and global motorsport stage.

“This rally transcends the conventional notion of a race—it is an immersive experience,” emphasized Yougan Tamang. “We envision that each participant will return to their homes as an ambassador of Sikkim, sharing captivating narratives of adventure, cultural richness, and warm hospitality that will undoubtedly ignite interest in our beautiful state far beyond the duration of this event.”

Furthermore, the Indian Racing Festival harbors the noble ambition of inspiring local youth, fostering interest in careers within automotive sports and engineering, and firmly establishing Sikkim as an appealing year-round destination for those who seek both thrilling adventures and the tranquility of nature.

With its potent combination of cultural celebration, high-speed action, and scenic beauty, the Indian Racing Festival is poised to become a truly defining moment in Sikkim’s ongoing journey of progress and development.
